Statement from the Chair

On the operations in Ambridge on July 31, 2025:

The Beaver County Democratic Committee stands with our local law enforcement and supports their efforts to keep our communities safe. We also stand firmly with our neighbors– ALL of our neighbors: citizens, non-citizens, documented and undocumented.

In Beaver County, our diversity is our strength. We all work and live together in this community. We all have a place here. And perhaps nowhere in Beaver County is that strength more visible than in the vibrant and diverse city of Ambridge, a city that was founded by immigrants with a strong eastern European heritage that continues to embrace immigrants from all over the world. Most recently, Ambridge has been celebrating the rich culture of our Latino neighbors who have been living, working and opening businesses in the community, sharing with all of us a love of food, music and culture that has only served to strengthen our county.

Thursday evening’s police action in Ambridge shattered much of the trust that had been built between community members, local officials and local law enforcement. Over the last seven months our communities have been on edge as federal agents, often masked and without proper identification, have been seen across the country detaining citizens and non-citizens alike at the behest of the current administration. When these same federal agents appeared alongside our own local police departments on Thursday night, whatever the stated intention of this action was, the result was real trauma on our community.

We urge our local officials to engage in conversation with our community to build a productive dialogue on how we can work together as a community to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live and work safely in Beaver County.

For those that are left hurting or feeling unsafe after these events, please know that you have a place here and you are welcome here. The Beaver County Democrats stand with you. Please reach out if you need support.

A slogan from the Brazilian resistance, translated into English, says, “No one let go of anyone’s hand.” That is what we will strive to do here. We will lock arms and fight for OUR communities, schools, jobs, environment, and rights. We will step up for our neighbors and not abandon the most vulnerable and at risk. We will call out attempts to divide and distract as ploys to enrich the powerful and their wealthy donors. Solidarity makes us stronger. Please join us by continuing to be present, visible, and vocal, and help us find more ways to show up in our community.
