Message From the Chair

This morning, President Donald Trump made statements that openly incited violence against elected Members of Congress and the United States Senate. No leader — past or present — has the right to endanger public servants or undermine the peaceful functioning of our democracy. Once again, he has chosen division over duty, threats over leadership, and reckless provocation over his basic responsibility to uphold the Constitution.

This is not abstract for us. It is personal. Political violence is an attack on every American, and we will not tolerate it in any form. Today’s rhetoric directly threatens several of our elected leaders, including our own Congressman Chris Deluzio and two friends of Beaver County, Senator Elissa Slotkin and Senator Mark Kelly.

We have witnessed far too much violence this year, fueled or excused by a president who refuses to accept accountability and by elected officials who lack the courage to confront him. Many of his allies spent the fall calling for an end to political violence — yet today, he once again attempts to distract from his own failures and defeats by stoking the flames of fear and division.

We will not be intimidated. We will not be silent. We stand firmly with Congressman Deluzio, Senators Slotkin and Kelly, and Representatives Houlahan, Kelly, Crow, and Goodlander. And we will continue to defend our democracy — peacefully, powerfully, and without apology — against anyone who seeks to harm it.
