Democratic Spotlight: Roylin Petties

What do you do for living?

I currently am the Supervisor of Student Attendance at the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. I am also an ordained Minister at the Holiness Church of Christ in Industry.

What made you get involved in politics?

I have always loved history and politics. I wanted to become involved in my town. I wanted to be of service and make sure I left Midland in a better position than i found it for my daughter.

Describe your current role with the Beaver County Democratic Party

I am currently involved with the Young Democrats along with being a Midland council member. Also, I am on Democratic party’s executive board, serving as Sergeant at Arms

How has Chairman Gentile re-energized the party since he came on board?

Mr. Gentile has re-energized the party by being open, honest and including everyone. Mr. Gentile realizes that we can’t keep doing business as usual or we will not have a party. He is open and honest about where the party is and where we need to go. I personally thank him for embracing me and the people of Midland who want to help the party move in a positive direction. With his leadership we are on the right path.

How can politicians bring Democrats and Republicans together to work toward a common goal?

We as people must think beyond parties. We must think on a human level. There is always time for politics, but there has to be a time when we look at policy decisions as what will help the people the most. In this election cycle in-particular, politics have ripped our nation apart. We all need to take a step back and remember we are people first. I believe if that is conveyed things can get done in a manner that will help and benefit everyone, regardless of our political affiliation.
