Mike Rossi, the democratic candidate for state representative in the 15th district, has publicly stated his support of house bill 1391, which currently sits in the House of Representatives. The bill, which re-affirms the 12.5% royalties that landowners must receive from oil and gas rights, has bipartisan support among both caucuses in the General Assembly. Oil and gas companies have come under fire recently for failing to hold up their end of the agreement, while deducting post-production costs from the 12.5% they are required by law to pay landowners. These deductions have taken money out of the pockets of landowners and have placed it back into the hands of big oil and gas.
“I fully support HB 1391, and I hope it passes in the house and senate,” said Rossi. “These are the times where lawmakers show their true colors. This common sense bill protects those landowners and gives them their fair share of the deal. What big oil and gas is doing by deducting post-production costs from their 12.5% royalty payments is flat out wrong.”
The house is expected vote on this bill in the coming days, and would affect thousands of landowners across the state, especially in Washington County.
