On Saturday, March 18, the Beaver County Democratic Committee’s Executive Board, along with the town chairs from the various municipalities, convened at the IBEW Local 712 building in Vanport as part of their quarterly reorganization meeting. Representatives of labor and education, along with elected officials, were also in attendance.
The meeting, the first led by new chairman, Stephen Dupree, began with the pledge of allegiance, followed by judicial candidates who addressed the group: Bill Braslawsce, Diane Zack Buchanan, Debbie Lancos DeCostro, David Neely, Myron Sainovich, and Mitch Shahen. All six candidates will appear on the ballot in the May primary for Beaver County Court of Common Pleas Judge. Luke Barry, son of Tim Barry, also spoke on behalf of his father who is running for a seat on the state commonwealth court.
Stephen Dupree offered his vision statement to the executive board, in which he quoted Rahm Emanuel, “In order to set policy we must win elections.” In his speech, Stephen challenged the Executive Board to fill vacant seats in the Beaver County Democratic Committee, and help lead new people when they want to get involved. Stephen also called for unity in the Democrat Party to stand up for working families and the need for social safety nets, to stand against the cuts to the arts and sciences, and to stand up against an increase in military spending that the current administration is proposing.
Three events are in the planning stages: the 1st annual Democratic Party golf outing on June 17th at Black Hawk Golf Course; a veteran’s picnic at Brady’s Run (date TBD), and a pre-election beer and pizza party (date and location TBD).
